I’m so excited to be blogging about my first experience as a BIRTH PHOTOGRAPHER! You guys….this has been a literal DREAM of mine forever, but I never thought I’d get the opportunity since I have another job two days per week and birth photography requires me to be on call at almost any given time. My friend Opal had reached out to me to see if I’d be interested a little while before her daughter was born. The answer was obviously YES, but I have to admit I was nervous that she would go into labor on one of my days working as a PT!
Turns out, the timing worked perfectly. Opal ended up getting induced on a Friday morning which left me plenty of time to get to my mom’s house where I was able to leave the boys when it was time to head to the hospital! I’ll leave the details of the birth story for her to tell, but lets just say I got there JUST in time. As soon as I got to the hospital, I knocked on the door and was greeted with “Are you the photographer?! Oh, you made it! You can stand right over there, she’s ready to go!”
The whole experience was just beautiful. Photography is all about capturing emotion, and there is truly nothing more touching and emotional than a baby being born. I bawled like a baby (anyone else?!) when my three were born, and seeing someone else experience that was soooo amazing, especially after following this family’s journey of multiple losses before sweet baby Lennon. As Opal wrote in one of her own blog posts over on her boutique page, “You can’t have a rainbow without a little rain.” Those babies will never be forgotten. Their story helps to highlight God’s goodness and grace even more.

It takes a lot of trust in a person to allow them to be there with you for such an important time, and I don’t take that for granted! I’m praising God with you for this beautiful baby girl who is SO lucky to have you and Kyle and Max.
Thankfully my mom lives only a few miles from the hospital, so before I headed back to my own house for the night, I was able to return to the hospital and grab a few pics with big brother!!
