I had the great privilege of doing a Milwaukee in-home maternity session for the Legarza family before they moved out of state for a job. They had messaged me saying that they wanted to capture their growing family, and all the favorite parts of their home. If you’ve been around for any length of time, you know that this is a dream session for me. I love in-home sessions because they are SO special and bring back all the memories; And, the fact that we got to play and create in multiple parts of the home made me so excited!
Planning the in-home maternity session
Before the session, I asked the family about their favorite places in their home. They loved the natural light in their dining room, the exterior of the home, and a nook where they would sit to have coffee every morning. Outside of that, they had special pieces of furniture and items that held significance to their family. I brought my lighting equipment to make sure that we would be able to get these things in the photos no matter the light, which was great because it was very cloudy. In fact, it actually rained during the second half of our session! I’m so grateful the rain held off so that we could grab some of the exterior, because they were moving 2 days after the session and we had no space to reschedule.
Having a toddler can present with its own challenges. However, photos with littles are my absolute favorite. I prepped the family on what to expect and how to let me lead the session. We also had to adapt a little bit to allow their toddler to have some choice in the photos. We got so many fun photos because of this family’s flexibility and the way they were able to love on their daughter without so much pressure! You’ll even notice she had a snack in her hand for a few photos. 🙂 This does NOT bother me, and if anything, adds to the lifestyle element of the photos!
