As an Oconomowoc newborn photographer, I recently had the joy of photographing a beautiful session. It was with a wonderful family and their new baby boy, Archie. This session felt warm and full of excitement. We captured one of life’s most precious moments—the beginning of their journey as first-time parents.
Archie’s parents met in college as student-athletes. Over the years, they’ve built a life full of shared memories and adventures. Now, they’re settling into their newly purchased home in Oconomowoc, WI, and starting their family. They’ve done an incredible job decorating their home! In just a few months, they have been creating a cozy, welcoming space filled with natural light; it’s a perfect setting for a newborn session.
One of my favorite details was Archie’s nursery, decorated in soft shades of blue and cream. The colors bring a peaceful feeling to the room, and you can tell how much love and care went into creating this special space for him. Archie’s parents decided to wait until his birth to find out they were having a boy, which added an extra layer of joy to these first moments as a family.
My newborn photography philosophy
In all my sessions, I aim to capture authentic, heartfelt moments that feel true to real life. I want families to feel comfortable and at ease. I avoid poses that feel forced or unnatural, especially for newborns as it can be unsafe. Instead of arranging babies into highly staged poses like the “froggy pose,” I focus on simplicity and connection. I encourage parents to relax and enjoy the moment, so their love and joy come through naturally in each photo.
Seeing Archie’s parents interact with him—each smile, each tender touch—brought their love and excitement to life in a way that truly moved me. Documenting these early days as a family of three felt like such an honor. I’m grateful to have captured these sweet, genuine memories for them.
